The Downingtown West Whippets lost to Downingtown East Tuesday, spoiling a complete game effort by pitcher Travis Pearson. The team has now lost three of four and is losing ground in the ChesMont standings.
Despite several astounding defensive plays and a superb pitching outing, the Whippets weren't able to take over the game. They gave up the winning run in the seventh inning and were unable to come through at the plate when it was needed the most. It's been a common tale for the Whippets, as in their seven losses on the season; three of them have been by one run. Those close games are pivotal and help shape the team into what they are.
The bright spots in the outing included Travis Pearson's complete game, as he gave up only three earned runs and struck out five. Also, Matt Engesser continued his hot streak, knocking in two runs on two hits. He has five hits in the past two games and has played a larger role on the team as of late.
The Whippets hope to improve upon their 5-6 record, as they precede into the second half of their schedule
