From the desk of Paul Solomon of the Octorara Football Boosters:

Dear Football Club Supporters,

Thousands of fans traveled great distances to watch their college team play in a bowl game. Football unites and energizes a school and community like nothing else. Now's the time to put forth our best effort to "Bring Football to Octorara." Even the Post Ledger listed the Football Club among the top 10 local news stories for 2005 and said, "there's still hope for the club yet."

If you are hopeful, let us know by coming to the next meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 23 in the OMS MPR. In addition to fundraising, we will be discussing specific aspects of our upcoming proposal to the school board. If you can't make it to the January meeting, it would be a help if you could email or call me and let me know that you are still behind the cause. Now is the time to make a difference.

Thanks in advance for letting us know you're still on board,

Paul Solomon

NFL Playoffs

OK. I have no clue who to pick this week, after selecting just one game correctly last week, Seattle over Washington.

Congrats to the Steelers, who not only added to Peyton Manning's reputation as a choker, exposed the Colts quarterback as a whiny weasel, too. Manning's post-game comments regarding his pass protection, or lack thereof, may have been technically accurate, but thoroughly the wrong thing to say.

Manning said, "I'm trying to be a good teammate here, but there were problems with our pass potection." No, Peyton, a good teammate wouldn't have said things like that to the press and on national TV. He wouldn't hang his teammates out to dry; a good teammate would have said something privately. Good luck having them want to protect you next season.

This week, I'll take the Steelers and the Seahawks, so here's an early congratulations to Denver and Carolina. Since I'm picking your opponents to win, you may as well start getting ready to play in Detroit.
