She was last season's leading scorer and had hopes of elevating this year's team as well as her own credentials. It's been tough for the Lady Mules and the 18-year old senior, but she remains a threat on the floor. She can drive to the basket, hit the trey and may be the quickest player on the Solanco team. She has been playing basketball since being enrolled in grade three. The Lady Golden Mule has also been active in the AAU program for the past seven years. Basketball is her favorite sport and the Seattle Supersonics is her favorite team. "But I love football, too." This week's Sun Ledger Athlete of the Week is Dana Hogarth.
Dana is the daughter of John and Maryellen Hogarth and resides in Providence Township with her parents and brother Ryan, 15, and sister Cindy, 9. She has two pet cats, Frosty and Tiki.
When not involved in school academics and athletics, Dana enjoys hanging out with her friends and going to the beach.
Dana says she prepares for competition by listening to music.
When asked what the positives of the season were, Dana offered. "I think everyone learned a lot this year and everyone gets along with each other. And everyone is trying."
The Lady Mules record is a discouraging statistic.
"Do your best at practice and in games and believe in yourself, said the senior when asked what advice she would give the younger student-athlete.
Mrs. Lloyd is her favorite teacher and her parents are the individuals who have influenced her most. "They have always been there for me and do anything and everything they can to help me."
Her most memorable sports moment occurred when she scored 26 points against Manheim Township in a game played last season.
Special friends include Elaine Hackart, Megan Adams, Mel and Kel and others. "They all know who they are."
Dana loves pasta and claims any Adam Sandler movie is one of her favorites. She also likes "10 Things I Hate About You."
Following her 2006 graduation Dana plans to attend college and pursue a degree in medical imaging. "My goal in life is to be successful and settle down and raise a family."
Our congratulations to Dana Hogarth this week's Sun Ledger Athlete of the Week.
