Three Braves finished a perfect 6-0 over the two days of wrestling at the Octorara Duals, and the team picked up three wins to finish 3-3 in the 12-team event.
On Friday night, Octorara won both of the meets on their schedule, knocking off Chichester 45-16, and thrashing Plumstead Christian 54-17.
Against Plumstead Christian, Tykee Rendell got the Braves off on the right foot with a 5-3 win at 275. Andrew Skrabak followed with a 33-second pin at 112, and Jason Stotlzfus kept it going with a 15-0 tech at 119. After allowing a pin at 125 and a forfeit at 130, Garth Ladley put the Braves on track with a pin at 135. The Braves next win came at 152, where Josh Smith got a pin in 2:42. Mike Kinney won 13-2 at 160, and Mike Letts had a pin in 1:53 at 171. Rounding out the list of winners against Plumstead Christian was Matt Wilson, who needed just 29-seconds for a pin at 215.
Wilson had another pin for the Braves against Chichester. Also getting falls for Octorara against the Eagles were Letts, Stoltzfus and Bruce Norton. Other winners for Octorara were Rendell, Steve Tarloski, Ladley, Smith, Kinney and Matt Metanchuk.
The Braves fell to Downingtown East 47-24.
Garth Ladley got a pin for Octorara at 130 against Downingtown East, locking up a cross face cradle to get the pin at the 2:25 mark, already leading 11-0 at the time of the fall
The Cougars' Brandon Brainard was trailing 4-0 late in the third period against Octorara's Josh Smith when he got a takedown to cut the lead to two. Brainard punched in a bar arm, and had begun to turn Smith, even getting a one-count. But time ran out on Brainard before he could get the two-count that would have sent the bout to overtime, and Smith held on for the 4-2 decision.
The Braves won another close one at 160 when the Braves' Mike Kinney scored on a switch for a reversal in the third period to steal a 2-1 decision, then the Braves' defending state champion Mike Letts got a pin at 171 to cut the Cougars lead to 23-18.
The Braves won the final two bouts. Steve Tarloski won by pin at 112, slapping on a headlock to get the fall in 1:26, and Jason Stoltzfus edged the Cougars Stever Tronel 10-6 at 119, countering a Stever Tronel shot and spinning behind for a takedown in the waning seconds of the match.
In other action, the Braves lost to Conestoga Valley 51-19, and edged Bethpage (NY) 35-34.
Ladley, Letts, and freshman Smith were all unbeaten in the two days of wrestling, and Stoltzfus was 5-1.
