There was no repeat of last season, when the Octorara boys track and field team won the District 1, Class AA championship. But Zach Berube's third straight championship in the pole vault led a contingent of three Braves to earn medals at the 2006 District 1 championships at Coatesville.
Berube cleared a height of 13-3 in the pole vault to successfully defend his District crown. With the leap, Berube also qualified to compete at this weekend's PIAA State Championships at Shippensburg.
The Braves pole vaulter will enter the state meet as the number 10 seed, and will jump 15th in the event. The number one seed in the pole vault is D.J. Horton from Kane Area, with a mark of 13-9.
The Braves secured the top three spots in the pole vault, as Trent Sherlock reached 11-0 to claim the District 1 silver medal. Austin Cornell also reached 11-0 to finish third.
Thrower Eric Danig placed in the top six in all three throwing events. Danig had a heave of 45-6 to finish third in the shot put, reached 136-8 for third in the discus, and had a throw of 143-5 to finish sixth in the javelin. Graham Shackford was right behind Danig, placing fourth in discus and eighth in the shot put.
