NEW GARDEN—Police are looking for a Kennett Square man in connection with a burglary of a popular mushroom business in the Kennett area.
Police are seeking Salvador Avalos-Baeza, 31, of Kennett Square. He is wanted for Burglary, Theft, and related offenses, in connection with the forced entry burglary of a mushroom business. The crime occurred in the early morning hours of Aug. 3, at Kaolin Mushroom Farms in the 900 block of W. Cypress Street, in New Garden Township.
A window was broken to gain entry and checks were stolen from inside. Charges were filed and an arrest warrant was issued that same date. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Avalos-Baeza is asked to call 911.
Police reports from across the region:
West Goshen Township Police located an occupied vehicle in the rear parking lot of the Quality Inn 943 S High Street. While speaking with one of the occupants of the vehicle, Carrie Goike, 47, of Florida, officers detected signs of drug activity. Goike was asked if she had any drugs or drug paraphernalia on her or in the vehicle and she stated there was paraphernalia in the vehicle. Officers were provided consent to search the vehicle and located blue wax papers, hypodermic needles; glass smoking pipes, and small clear zip lock bags. The blue wax papers were tested and confirmed to contain heroin and fentanyl. An arrest warrant was issued for Goike on the drug charges.
On Aug. 4, at 12:34 p.m./, West Chester Police officers responded to the Rite Aid for the report of a retail theft that just occurred. As a result of the investigation, James London, 50, of West Chester was taken into custody. He was remanded to Chester County Prison to await arraignment.
On Aug. 10, at 9:26 a.m., West Chester Police officers were dispatched to the 100 block of South Church Street for a domestic not in progress. Officers observed that the victim was observed to have a cut on his forearm consistent with being cut by a knife. While on location, the alleged offender, Kendra Davis, 30, of West Chester, arrived back at the incident location. Davis was arrested for Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon. Davis was processed and remanded to the Chester County Prison.
On Aug. 11 at 1:20 a.m., West Chester Police officers were alerted to a man subject possibly masturbating in the 50 block of North High Street. Police officers observed the male openly masturbating in the 50 block of North High Street. He was identified as Michael Sarmento, 55, of West Chester. Sarmento was taken into custody for openl, indecent exposure, and disorderly conduct.
On Aug. 1, at 12:14 p.m., West Chester Police officers responded to the West Chester Public Library for the report of a man urinating in the library. As a result of the investigation, James London, 50, of West Chester was taken into custody for Possession of Controlled Substance, Public Drunkenness, Criminal Mischief and related offenses.
Theft of purse
On July 18, the Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department investigated an incident of a theft of a purse and subsequent use of stolen credit cards from a 75-year-old victim while she was shopping at the Giant in Westtown Township. As a result of an investigation, David Lee Day Jr. has been identified as the suspect who stole the purse out of the shopping cart. An arrest warrant has been issued for David Lee Day Jr. on August 6, 2019. On Aug. 8 at 10:10 p.m., officers made contact with Anthony Schweitzer, 19, in Elwood Gardens Apartment Complex. Schweitzer was known to have multiple criminal warrants for his arrest and was taken into custody without incident. Schweitzer was transported to station and held for constables.
On Aug. 12, Coatesville Police were dispatched to the 300 block of South Fifth Avenue for criminal mischief to a vehicle. The victim reported Anthony Glover, 34, of Viaduct Avenue in Downingtown, had slashed the front passenger's side tire with a knife and fled the area prior to police arrival. A citation for criminal mischief was filed for Glover.
On Aug. 13, Coatesville Police were dispatched to an alarm at a business in the 700 block of East Lincoln Highway. Officers came into contact with a man identified as William Wise, 54, of South Fifth Avenue in Coatesville, standing outside of the business. Wise was found to have active bench warrant and was taken into custody, transport to the Chester County Prison. Everything appeared to be normal at the business and no charges were filed in relation to the alarm, police said.
