We are currently in an economic downturn of grand proportions. The unemployment rate has been above 8 percent, and our debt is being increased by more than a trillion dollars each year over the past four years of the Obama Administration. The real unemployment percentage ( including those who have stopped looking for work, have taken a part time job just to bring in some money or those who have filed for or are on Social Security Disability – whether truly disabled or not ) is more like 15 to 20 percent.
If you look at most, if not all, of the big cities in this country you will see municipalities going bankrupt, crumbling roads, failing water and sewer lines, failing public schools, massive government greed and corruption. Our tax money is being 're-distributed' to friends and supporters of the current administration and elected and appointed officials are getting rich on the taxpayers' dime.
In September 2012, while ours cities are going down the tubes, the members of the teachers' union in Chicago went on strike for, among other things, a 16 percent increase in pay over the next four years. Big Government Democrats like Barack Obama love to see these strikes. One: It tends to deflect from the radical actions of the Obama Administration which occur on a daily basis. Two: Once the teachers get their raises the Democrat Party, and Obama in particular, will get a lot of the raise dollars in the form of campaign contributions. Three: It's all part of the teachings of one of Barack Obama's radical mentors, Saul Alinsky, the so-called 'father of modern American radicalism'.
It's no wonder that our cities are failing with the greed and total lack of understanding by these teachers and other government employees being paid with taxpayer money. They either do not understand or do not care about the economic struggles the rest of the hard-working Americans are experiencing. These teachers and other government workers who think like them seem to only be concerned about how many dollars of taxpayer money they can get out of the rest of us.
The Chicago teachers are reported, by a Chicago School District spokesperson, to be making on average $76,000.00 a year. This does not count the teachers' outstanding level of benefits, great pensions, and tenure and this amount is for only 10 months of work. The average yearly wages for all Americans is somewhere around $ 43,000.00 for a 12-month work year. This amount does not include benefits. So, the average taxpayer, who is paying for the government teachers' salaries, benefits, and pensions are making approximately $ 30,000.00 less than the teachers they are supporting.
Teachers on strike will typically tell you that they are only striking in order to help the students. But, if this is for the students, why do our schools continue to fail and student grades continue to drop, and drop out rates continue to rise? The extra pay and massive benefits received by the teachers do not ever seem to manifest into better grades, lower drop out rates, and better and safer schools.
The one thing that these big cities and these schools have in common is that they are almost always controlled by progressives, liberals, and Democrats. These people are always looking to big government and more tax money to 'fix' the problems in schools and in government in general. This 'stinkin' thinkin' of throwing more and more taxpayer money at wasteful and dysfunctional governmental organizations is not the answer, never works, and never will work.
Over the past three years, the U.S. credit rating has been decreased from an AAA rating to an AA rating and just recently to an AA- rating. The time for greed and total lack of personal responsibility has got to end. Our cities, towns, and our very Country are being destroyed from within by this 'gimee' attitude.
Americans are being ripped off and financially destroyed by governmental control of everything in our lives. The only way to solve the problems created and perpetuated by people in government is to get back to common sense, moral principles, and the free enterprise system that, when allowed to operate properly, makes America stronger and more prosperous.
