A sixth-inning offensive explosion, capped by a bomb over the left field fence off the bat of Ryan Young, catapulted the Octorara Little League 12-year old All-Star team to an 8-5 win over Garden Spot in the opening round of the Marra International District 23 Tournament at the Solanco Little League complex.Octorara jumped out to an early lead with a run in the first when Joey Myers led off with a single, Zach Fisher and Steven Cumberland drew walks, and Dominique Lapp was hit by a pitch. Octorara added another in the second on singles from Myers and T.J. Peppernick, and another hit batsmen in Young.

After Garden Spot broke a 2-2 tie with a run in the bottom half of the fifth, Octorara's hitters teed off on the Garden Spot reliever, pushing across six runs in the top half of the sixth. Dustin Lawrence and James Supplee got things going with back to back singles to start the inning, then Peppernick knocked them home with a triple to center. Eric Lowry brought Pepper-nick home with a single, and Myers singled for his third hit of the afternoon to put two on for Young. With the count at two balls and a strike, Young connected, launching a ball to left that reached the second row of cars in the parking lot for a three run homer.

Myers, in addition to a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, picked up the win in relief, throwing 1.1 innings. Myers struck out two hitters, and allowed two earned runs on two hits.
