Concert set in Kennett
Garnet Rogers will appear in concert Sunday, May 20, from 7:30 until 10:30 p.m. at 352 N. Lincoln St. Kennett Square, (home of Jessie Cocks & Patrick Seyler). This is an intimate evening with Garnet, who is a consummate singer/songwriter/musician/storyteller. Doors open at 7 p.m. BYOB. Snacks and coffee, tea and juice provided. Wine tasting gala scheduled
Kennett High School Friends of Music is holding a wine tasting gala event on Saturday, May 19 at the Oberod Estate in Delaware from 7 to 10 p.m. Wines are provided by Frank's Union Wine Mart. Tickets are $35 per person and include an assortment of appetizers and desserts from local restaurants and businesses. Please support the non-profit organization, Friends of Music in its efforts to raise funds for musical instruments, and other needed items that will support the growing music program at Kennett High School. Memorial Day Parade set May 28
The traditional Kennett Square Memorial Day Parade will kick off at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 28. The town's largest parade includes marching bands, fife and drum corps & color guard groups, antique military vehicles and vintage convertibles, Civil War and Revolutionary War re-enactors, bagpipers, little league teams, and much more. In honor of our local veterans, the parade will end with a memorial ceremony at the Union Hill Cemetery. The parade route goes from the Kennett High School up South Union Street to right onto Cypress, left up South Broad Street to left onto West State Street and finally right onto North Union Street. The parade ends at the Union Hill Cemetery on the left, where a memorial ceremony will be held. For more information, 610-444-3810.
Concert set at St. Michael's
The 27-voice New Ark Chorale will perform "An American Tapestry: Songs of Freedom, Hope and Remembrance" at St. Michael Lutheran Church in Unionville on Sunday, June 3 at 3 p.m. The Memorial Day Weekend concert will consist entirely of music written by and for Americans. The New Ark Chorale has performed in five states and is celebrating its 35th season. The public is invited. Donation of $5 per adult and $2 per child under age 12. The church is located on East Doe Run Road near the traffic circle in Unionville.
Home and Garden Day
The Bayard Taylor Memorial Library Home and Garden Day Tour will take place Saturday, June 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased at the library or online at www.bayardtaylor.org. For more information, call 610-444-2702. Reservations are required by May 25. Wheelchairs cannot be accommodated on this tour. There are eight very impressive homes on the tour.
St. Patrick's selling contents of school
St. Patrick's Church on Meredith Street in Kennett Square is planning to sell all the contents from the Elementary School on Saturday, May 19, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The public is invited. For sale will be Compaq and HP computers, flat screen monitors, storage cabinets, furniture, books (the entire school library) music instruments and much more. Credit cards and cash accepted but personal checks are not. The school was ordered to close permanently in June by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Students must find alternate schools to attend in September.
