Tuesday is International Women’s Day. Celebrated each year on March 8, the day aims to honor women’s economic, political and social achievements.

Some celebrate the day by wearing a purple ribbon.

Google celebrated this year with a Doodle video, the culmination of visits to 12 cities around the world and interviews with 337 girls and women who were asked to complete the sentence, “One day I will...”

Microsoft has made its own video for IWD, asking “Can you name any women inventors?”

The official website for International Women’s Day is using the #IWD2016 hashtag to promote events throughout the world.

The group is also calling on “champions of gender parity” to use the #PledgeForParity hashtag to promote gender parity.

“How will you mark the day?” reads a message calling for pledges to support women’s parity. “...let’s also be aware progress has slowed in many places across the world, so urgent action is needed to accelerate gender parity.”
