The Unionville High School ice hockey team had an over two-week break for the Christmas holiday following its shocking win on Dec. 21 over reigning Flyers Cup and Class A state champion West Chester Henderson.Any concerns, though, of Unionville coming out a bit rusty in its first game back last week against Malvern Prep II following the layoff didn't last long.
Unionville erupted for three goals in the first two minutes of the game and never looked back as the Indians rolled to a 6-3 victory over the Friars last Friday night at IceLine.
Unionville (3-4-1 overall) has now posted two straight impressive victories after starting its season with just one win in its first six games.
The Indians six-goal outburst was led by Jeff Neiburg. The junior forward netted two goals and added an assist in the victory. Neiburg's first goal came less than 30 seconds into the game, and Unionville never relinquished the lead against Malvern Prep II (4-6 overall).
Also scoring for Unionville was Garrett Bunting, Patrick Brennan and Michael Burgess. In addition, Matt Milana and Chris Brennan each had two assists.
Indians freshman goalie Stephen Kelly made 22 saves in the win.
Next up for Unionville is a meeting with the Haverford School on Friday, Jan. 11, at 6:50 p.m. at IceLine.
