Thomas Edgar Herrman of Marlborough Village died unexpectedly on April 20, 2012, at Chester County Hospital. He was born Feb. 11, 1930, in Safe Harbor, Pa., to James Elwood Herrman and Verna Marietta Touchton.
A veteran of the United States Navy, Tom grew up in Unionville, where he was active in sports and graduated from Unionville High School in 1948. He went on to study at and graduate from Goldey-Beacom College in Wilmington, Del. Tom made his career with the County of Chester, where he worked for 35 years, retiring in 1995. His work was with the Chester County Prison where he served as both deputy warden and director of the work-release program when it was headquartered on Gay Street in West Chester.
Tom was a quiet, honest and generous man who was enormously funny. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially in the outdoors at his cabin in Huntingdon County, Pa. Tom loved dancing with his wife, Dot, and their friends for the past 15 years.
He is survived by Dorothy Marie Herrman (nee Brown), his wife of 59 years, his daughters, Tina H. Becker of West Chester, Kim A. Herrman (John Dohms), of Newark, Del., his son Christopher Thomas Herrman of Grand Junction, Colo., and his grandchildren Jeffrey A. Becker (Hilary) of Davidson, N.C., and Erin M. Becker of Cambridge, Mass. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
Interment will be private.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to a favorite charity.
