The 10th annual Camp Runalot changed venues this year as Solanco head cross country coach, Scott Weaver, joined eight counselors, four kitchen helpers, three coaches and 26 aspiring long distance runners at Laurel Hill State Park, a 3,935-acre tract in Somerset County with a 63-acre lake. "It was a great time and I don't think I ever laughed that hard at Camp Runalot," wrote Weaver in a recent e-mail. "The new camp site is great and huge, we only used a small portion of the group Camp No. 2. It has a large dining room and kitchen, with a recreation hall. We got a lot of workouts in, team building and goal setting for the season to come. We got to do the usual stream hike with peel the onion game, a trip to Ohiopyle with run on the rail to trail, a swim in the river and some time at the rock water slide." Weaver thanked the counselors, kitchen help and the coaches for making it all possible. "I'm really looking forward to a great season," said the coach. The Golden Mules will begin their season in Hummelstown, Pa where they will compete in the Run for the Chocolate on Tuesday, Aug. 26, at 5:35 p.m.
Solanco hosts their only home meet at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 16, when the Golden Mules will oppose Columbia, Garden Spot, Hempfield and Lancaster Mennonite.
