A student and teacher in the Downingtown Area School District were recognized by Superintendent Sandra Griffin at a recent school board meeting.Collin Miller, a junior at Downingtown East High School, filmed and edited a new 18-minute video of the school district under the director of technology education teacher John Scheuer.

"Collin readily volunteered to help our Communication Office create this new video and spent much of the summer editing the video clips he recorded this past spring," Griffin said. "The result is a comprehensive look at our district, our schools and our students."

In addition, Griffin recognized Audrey Blust, a fifth grader teacher at Pickering Valley Elementary School. Blust was awarded the Pennsylvania Council for the Social Studies Outstanding Elementary Teacher of the Year Award.

"This award is given to a teacher who shows outstanding accomplishment in developing and using instructional materials creatively and effectively, utilizing new research, fostering a spirit of inquiry and helping her students develop democratic beliefs and skills essential for active citizenship in the classroom, school, family and community," Griffin said.

Blust is scheduled to receive her award at a PCSS annual conference on Oct. 16.
