Stephen Wertz, 56, of Wagontown, died suddenly at home Jan. 24, 2008.He was the husband of Sandie Cooper, with whom he shared seven years of marriage.
Born July 8, 1951, he was the son of Edward "Duke" Wertz and Dorothy "Jean" Kushlan Wertz of Wagontown.
A 1969 graduate of CASH, he was employed as a well driller for BL Myers for more than 10 years. He previously worked at the Acme in both Thorndale and Coatesville.
He was active in sports while in school and enjoyed watching them later in life. He was one of the founding members of the Over the Hill Association and a former member of the Wagontown Swim Team.
He enjoyed various forms of fishing.
In addition to his wife and his parents, he is survived by three brothers, Aldus Wertz, husband of Cheryl, of Gap, Brian Wertz, husband of Karen, of Chester Springs and David Wertz of Wagontown; four sisters, Brenda Wertz of Lancaster, Amy Donovan, wife of Frank, of Buckingham, Diana Carcanague, wife of Dan, of Natick, Mass. and Wendy Kurenda, wife of Michael, of Coatesville; a sister-in-law, Jennifer Wertz; and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Wertz.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, Jan. 30, at Maclean-Chamberlain Funeral Home Inc., Wagontown.
