Free kids raceThe Kennett Area Park and Recreation Board will hold its fifth annual Kids Cross Country Race on Thursday, July 31 at 7 p.m. in the Anson B. Nixon Park. The 1.5-mile race is free, and open to all children ages 14-and-under. Awards will be given to the toptwo male and female finishers in the following age groups: 6-and-under, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14. Kids running class

A running class for kids, supported by the Kennett Area YMCA, will be held every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the month of July beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the Anson B. Nixon Park. There is no cost for the class, and it ends at 10:30 a.m. For more information contact Hannah Christopher at

Titans registration

The Kennett-Unionville Titans youth football organization is now accepting mail-in registration for its upcoming 2008 season. The Titans offer competitive football and cheerleading for children ages 5 to 14 years old (as of June 30), who live in either the Kennett Consolidated or UnionvilleChadds Ford School Districts. Football camps

Kennett High School varsity football coach Jim Donato will be holding his "No Huddle Football Camps" the week of July 21. There are three separate sessions. A Strength & Speed Development Camp on July 21 (cost $49), a Quarterback-Wide Receiver Elite Technique Camp on July 22 (cost $65), and a Offense-Defense All-Position Camp from July 23 to 25 (cost $129). A weekly camp pass is offered for $189, and a combo pass for two of the sessions is $149. The camps are non-contact. Gators swimming

The Green Woods Gators youth swim team recently lost to the UMLY Swim Club by a score of 255-211. Despite the loss, a number of Green Woods swimmers turned in outstanding performances, highlighted by Shane Austin, who won five events during the meet. Maura Grimes was a triple winner and Hillary Yarosh, Ben Halkowski and Hunter Hayers each won two events. In addition, Anna Wertz, Nick Halkowski, Mark Miller, Tommy Ferree, Erin Polries, Nathaniel Talley, Lindsey Hewton and Thomas Smiddy all took first place in one event.

Kennett Y swimming

The Kennett Area YMCA's youth swim team recently defeated Drummond Hill by a score of 329-308. Triple winners for Kennett were Evan Dwyer, Jackie Gorcyca, Andrea Hamilton, Michael Iacocca, Taylor Jones, Liam O'Neill, Julia Pinamont and Elizabeth Wuerstle. Double winners for Kennett were Allie Carter, Brock Curry, Megan Dougherty, Sarah Dwyer, Jill Finfrock, Ryan Ganly, Kim Gorcyca, Jeffrey Hauptschein, Christopher Kienzle, Garrett O'Neill, Bailey Reigel, Logan Reigel, Katherine Rozsits, Mary Samuels and Laura Stephens.

The Kennett Area YMCA swim team also recently defeated Persimmon Creek by a score of 341-278. Triple winners for Kennett were Allie Carter, Brock Curry, Grant Graybill, Katherine Rozsits, Laura Stephens and Elizabeth Wuerstle. Double winners for Kennett were Abbey Bell, Melissa Cassel, Sara Cristy, Jonathan Dembek, Johnathan Ganly, Ryan Ganly, Kim Gorcyca, Hana Graybill, Andrea Hamilton, Matthew Hauptschein, Andrew Humphrey, Aydan Humphrey, Eric Hyzny, Taylor Jones, Christopher Kienzle, Brady O'Neill, Liam O'Neill, Julia Pinamont, Bailey Reigel, Logan Reigel, Conor Samuels, Mary Samuels and Matthew Stalford.
