Solid Rock Youth Ministries in Quarryville is getting ready to hold its first-ever fund-raising banquet to benefit its mission of providing youth with a safe place to congregate where they can learn more about Jesus Christ.

There are still tickets available to anyone who would like to attend the banquet, which will be held at the Netherlands Inn and Spa, (formerly Historic Strasburg Inn), 1 Historic Drive, Strasburg, on Thursday, April 27. The banquet starts at 6:30 p.m. and the three-course meal is served at 7 p.m.

Tables at the banquet have already been paid for by sponsors, such as individuals and businesses in the community that support Solid Rock, so anyone who wants to attend doesn't have to buy a ticket, but a free will offering will be taken at the banquet.

So far, 25 tables at the banquet have been sponsored at a cost of $150 each. Each table seats eight people.

"It's an opportunity to reach out to people who don't know a lot about Solid Rock," said Claire Myers, Jr., who directs Solid Rock Youth Center at 34 E. State St. in Quarryville with his wife Jackie.

The speaker at the banquet will be Butch Marvin, chairman of Solid Rock's board of directors. The Solid Rock Worship Band will perform, as will Brett Rush, pastor of Shiloh Tabernacle in Quarryville and Alicia Gray of Lancaster. She is involved with the junior staff at Solid Rock.

Kelly Wyatt, who is on the banquet committee with John Rush, came up with the idea for the fund raiser with Jackie Myers.

Randy Zimmerman, the newest member of Solid Rock's board of directors, said they're hoping to have the banquet every year as an additional fund-raiser. Solid Rock also hosts an auction every year.

The money raised from the banquet will go towards expenses associated with Solid Rock's Youth Center and for its programs.

"It's a unique center in the middle of a town and a place where the kids can come and get real hope and the answers to life," said Zimmerman, who lives in Willow Street and attends New Providence Baptist Church. "Everybody needs the Lord in their life. People want real answers and it's got to begin with Christ."

To get a ticket for the banquet, or for more information, call Solid Rock at 786-8007. Solid Rock will have tickets as long as they're available.
