"Guys and Dolls," a winner of eight Tony Awards and three Academy Awards, will be performed by Solanco High School students as this year's spring musical. The musical is Friday, April 7, and Saturday, April 8, with both performances beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Solanco High School auditorium. Tickets cost $6 and may be ordered from cast and pit orchestra members, or from Solanco Video in Quarryville.
Based on characters created in a series of short stories about the "lowlife" in New York City, "Guys and Dolls" is about the 14-year engagement of Adelaide, a night club singer, and Nathan Detroit, a petty criminal, and also involves the antics of gambler Sky Masterson, holy roller Sarah Brown, and Nicely-Nicely Johnson.
More than 100 students, including 65 cast members and 34 pit orchestra members, are dedicating their time and effort in preparation for the performances of "Guys and Dolls."
Cast members include Justine Leaman as Miss Adelaide, Matthew Battiste as Nathan Detroit, Jeremy DeLong as Sky Masterston, Alice Renier as Sarah Brown, and Jordan Swisher as Nicely-Nicely Johnson.
Also in the cast are Caitlin Mauger, Kelli Braightmeyer, Jeremy Miller, Jake Farneth, Matthew Hudacs, Eric Cooper and Andrew Wolfe.
This year's Solanco Spring Musical is being directed by Kathy and Richard Croyle, and the pit director is Gary Doll.
