Twenty-four of Solanco High School's most talented student musicians are participating in county and District 7 band, chorus and orchestra festivals, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) and the Lancaster-Lebanon Music Educators Association.
The district, region and state festivals attract the finest high school musicians by way of a rigorous auditioning process. On the local level the PMEA affiliate, the Lancaster-Lebanon Music Educators Association, sponsors county level festivals.
The festivals offer challenging levels of difficulty by requiring that students re-audition at each festival starting at the district level. If the students places at the top of their respective section they can continue onto the next level.
The district music groups comprise eight counties in south and central Pennsylvania. Regional groups are chosen from the eastern districts of Pennsylvania and all state features the top-qualifying musicians in the state.
The festivals are hosted by music directors who volunteer their time and facilities for a weekend so the locations change each year.
