After earning a narrow victory over Phoenixville on Thursday evening in the opening round of the Unionville Holiday Tournament, the Mules lost to the host school by a 74-60 margin the following night.Unionville never trailed taking a 16-10 lead after the first quarter and exiting with a six-point advantage at the half. Solanco outscored the host team in the third quarter to get to within four going into the final eight minutes, but Unionville, led by Pete Hissey and Robert Sundry, who both ended with 23, owned the final quarter with a 26 point output to easily defeat the Mules by a 14 point advantage.
B. J. Enck took scoring honors for the hapless Mules with 17 points, including three buckets from beyond the three-point arc. Brian Allport canned 16 points with Henry Glackin canning eight.
Unionville went to the charity stripe on 45 occasions connecting on 35 on their attempts (87-percent), while Solanco was awarded only 17 opportunities hitting on nine attempts (53-percent).
In the opener against Phoenixville, Allport had a huge night with 29 points and eight rebounds. He was the only Mule to hit for double digits with both Scott Robinson and Dustin Metzler connecting for seven and Glackin six.
Solanco out rebounded Phoenixville 33-24 with Glackin taking team honors with nine.
The Mules were up by nine at the half, but Phoenixville put up a zone press that gave the Mules a challenge resulting in a three point Phoenixville lead going into the final eight minutes of play. During that quarter the Mules managed just seven points.
Solanco answered the challenge behind two senior players. Allport buried two treys and Ben L. Miller culminated a steal with a driving lay-up leading the Mules to a 48-44 win and the right to advance to the finals against Unionville.
