Two Solanco alumni were honored at the Alvernia College 20th annual awards banquet sponsored by the Alvernia College Department of Athletics and Recreation. The event was hosted at the Sheraton in Reading, Pa. on Thursday, May 8.Special recognition was paid to field hockey head coach Laura (Carter) Gingrich, who collected her 100th career win during an undefeated PAC season. Gingrich, a 1980 Golden Mule alumnus, graduated from West Chester University and attained her master's degree at Kent State University. She earned Regional Division III Coach of the Year honors while at Alvernia in 2006.
Jill Rosolie, a senior Lady Crusader, was presented the Samuel J. Calabria Coach's Award; the award recognizes Coach Calabria's late father who introduced Calabria to the game of basketball. Rosolie was named to the D3hoops.com Women's Basketball Mid-Atlantic All-Region Third Team and the All-Conference second team. She was only the second Alvernia player recognized by D3hoops in the school's history. A guard, Rosolie was second on the team averaging 11.9 points per game and third in rebounding with an average of 4.6 boards per game. She scored double figures in 13 of the last 16 games of the season and totaled a season-high 14 rebounds in a game against Messiah.
Rosolie was the only member of her high school graduating class to advance to collegiate basketball. She was accepted at St. John Fisher University following her high school graduation, but left following her sophomore year transferring to Alvernia, a school that had also expressed an interest in enrolling her prior to the student/athlete's high school graduation.
Both have family ties to the area. Gingrich is the daughter of John "Jack" and Nancy Carter; Rosolie is the daughter of Solanco High School Principal, Gerard Rosolie
