The Avon Grove High School field hockey team beat Downingtown East in a Ches-Mont game last week to move to 3-1 in the league. The Red Devils currently sit in second place in the National Division behind undefeated Downingtown West. The following is a recap of last week's high school sports action:
Thursday, September 17
Avon Grove 1, Downingtown East 0
Avon Grove (3-1 league) scored the big Ches-Mont victory as Samie Christopher netted the game-winning goal with 2:13 left. Ellie Gould turned away all 16 shots she faced to earn the shutout for the Lady Devils.
W.C. Henderson 205, Avon Grove 248
Avon Grove (0-7 league) was led by Jack Fosselman, who carded an even-par nine-hole 36 at Radley Run.
Downingtown East 2, Avon Grove 0
In a battle of Ches-Mont League unbeatens, East (5-0 overall, 3-0 league) prevailed with the shutout as the Red Devils dropped to 4-2-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the league.
Avon Grove 3, Downingtown East 1
Avon Grove (4-0 overall) stayed undefeated with the 25-22, 20-25, 25-15, 25-14 win. Mackenzie Kleespies led Avon Grove with 21 kills. Annabelle Charlton added eight kills and 32 assists.
Friday, September 18
Garnet Valley 2, Avon Grove 0
Avon Grove (1-3 Ches-Mont) suffered the nonleague loss as they were shutout by Garnet Valley.
Avon Grove 5, Coatesville 2
Avon Grove (3-3 league) evened its Ches-Mont record with the easy victory. Carli Marvel and Eric Weiler earned a strong three-set win for the Lady Devils at first doubles.

Radnor 2, Avon Grove 1 (OT)
Avon Grove suffered the nonleague loss in overtime. The Red Devils, who still stand at 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the league, received its goal from Samie Christopher in the first half.
