Sally Patricia Pendleton Wright Conrey of Thomasville, N.C., formerly of Downingtown, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, after an illness.She was born in Indianapolis, Ind., on Jan. 4, 1924, to Clifford Ruskin Wright and Dorothy Gay Wright; she was the sister of Clifford "Mike" Jr., Elmer "Pat," and Howard Wright.
She became profoundly hard of hearing due to an illness at age 4. Sally attended Rollins College, where she earned a B.A. in English and pledged to Kappa Kappa Gamma.
She married Henry Slicer Conrey in 1957.
Sally's adult life was spent as a homemaker and advocate for disability rights.
She moved her home from Downingtown to North Carolina in 1985, first to Dogwood Cottage in Tryon, and later to Thomasville.
She was inexhaustible: a prolific and extravagant gardener, traveler, bridge player, lover of antiques, collector of recipes, and lady without measure.
She is survived by many, many friends; her beloved dog, Maggie; her daughter, Amy Conrey Stevens; and granddaughters, Olivia and Rachel Stevens of Hubbardston, Mass., and Berkeley, Calif.; nieces and nephews including Deborah Wright Lecius of Eliot, Maine; her dear friend, Beatrice Jameson Dankanich of Downingtown; her step-daughter, Ann Conrey Gagnon and family of Canton, Conn.; her brother, Howard Philbrook Wright Sr. of Southport, Maine; and grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was predeceased by her husband; her daughter, Phebe Conrey King of Cumberland, Maine; and her brothers, Pat and Mike.
