Class on diabetes offered

On Wed., Jan. 21, two separate classes will be held at the Quarryville Library - one class at 2 p.m. and one class at 6:30 p.m. on "living with diabetes."

Richard Humphreys, local storyteller and colorful personality will speak about the highs and lows - literally and meta of living with diabetes.

The talk will include tips for newly diagnosed diabetics, thoughts about the psychology of managing diabetes successfully, complications of the disease and the book - "50 Secrets of the Longest Living People With Diabetes" (in which Humphreys is one of ten (10) featured diabetics)

Humphreys has lived with Type 1 diabetes for over 50 years. He has directed camps for children living with diabetes for more than 20 years.

Humphreys has traveled extensively and currently owns and operates Gnome Countryside a nature trail for school age children and their families.

Family Place Workshops

Join us for a five-week series of parent-child early learning play time. A fun hour complete with books, blocks, puzzles, songs and other interactive toys. Tuesdays, Jan. 20 to Feb. 17 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and Wednesdays, Jan. 21 to Feb. 18 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. (Ages 6 months to 3 years with a parent/caregiver) Limit 18 children.

Story Times for March

Mondays: March 2, 9, 16, 23,30, April 6, 10:30 a.m. 3 year olds Tuesdays: March 3, 10, 17, 24, 31, April 7, 10:30 a.m. 4 and 5 year olds

Colonial Times program

Jan. 10 - "Work and Play in Colonial Times." Learn about the "good old days" from our friends at the Landis Valley Museum. Participants can try their hand at carding wool, grinding corn and playing historical games among other things. A family friendly hour filled with good-old-fashioned fun. 10:30 a.m. This is for all ages.

Winnie the Pooh is coming

The week of Jan. 19 - 24. Winnie the Pooh Bear is coming for a special story time. Check with the library for a date and time.

Feb. 2009 - TOP SECRET PROJECT REVEALED. The library is collecting empty one-gallon milk or iced tea jugs for a TOP SECRET PROJECT. In February we will be revealing the secret project, so stop by to see what all the fuss is about.

Library offering computer help

The Quarryville Library will be offering computer and technology help for anyone interested. High School students will be available to help. Sign up for help with Computers, Cell phones, Digital cameras, MP3 players, Ipods, DVD players, Internet and Email, Instant Messaging, My Space, Word, Excel, Power Point etc. An appointment is needed.
