The Parkesburg Lions Club started its 2008-09 year on a high note with the installation of three new club members at its Sept. 11 meeting. New 'Lions' Jay and Eileen Montgomery and Kim Crump were sworn-in by Carl Gundrum, the past District Governor for the club's district. Also, the club's slate of officers for the year was installed, and Lion Sheena Gabriel will be club President again this year. Gabriel is the youngest member ever to serve as President in the Lions' International Organization.
The club is kicking things into high gear, as a number of fundraisers and community events are already on the horizon. First, there's Spa Day, which will be held this Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Parkesburg Baptist Church. All proceeds go to the club, not vendors, and all proceeds go into the club's building fund. The club is currently researching purchasing a building or buying property and constructing one, but that's in the very preliminary stages.
Also on the horizon is the annual Parkesburg Lions' Club Halloween Parade, which, this year, will be held Oct. 18. The rain date will be Oct. 25. And, this year, there will be a Fall Festival - sponsored by the Lions - held in conjunction with the parade at the Parkesburg Firehouse. Space is available and interested vendors and crafters should contact Eileen Montgomery at email@example.com.
The Lions are looking forward to an active and productive year, and welcome any interested residents to become a member. To do so, contact any Lions' Club member or attend one of their meetings on the second and fourth Thursdays at the Parkesburg Baptist Church on West Street.
