The Democratic Party celebrated the grand opening of its 2008 General Election Campaign Office this past weekend-in a building very familiar to the Oxford Tribune. 407 Market Street. The Tribune's old address has taken on new life as the Southern Chester County OxGrove campaign headquarters.The celebration started Friday night, September 5, with refreshments at 4 p.m. and guest speakers begininng at 7 p.m. People gathered around the building as local candidates took their turn with the microphone. Speakers at the event included county Democratic leader Dan Wofford and 2008 candidates Tom Houghton, running for State Representative of the 13th District, John Linder, running for State Senate, and Bruce Slater, for Congress.
After the last speech by Congressional candidate Slater, members of the OxGrove Committee presented Slater with a homemade coconut cake decorated with candles and an American flag in honor of his recent birthday. Visitors shared in the celebration and in eating the cake.
This office opening marked the second in two days for the Democratic Party. The OxGrove Democrats' Committee opened their Kennett Area campaign office at 100 Sycamore Alley, Suite C (behind Newton's) on Thursday, September 4.
The OxGrove Democratic Committee is the official organization representing the Democratic Party in Elk, East Notting-ham, Franklin, London Grove, New London, West Nottingham, Upper Oxford, Lower Oxford, and Penn townships, plus Oxford and West Grove boroughs. The committee includes Democratic Committee people from each of the fifteen southwestern Chester County precincts that make up Zone 5 of the Chester County Democratic Party.
The mission of the OxGrove Democratic Committee is to recruit and elect qualified Democratic candidates and support them in advancing progressive Democratic platforms. Zone meetings take place on the second Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the Penn Township building on Lewis Road. All registered Democratic voters in the region are welcomed to attend.
Citizens of the area are invited to visit the campaign office to register to vote or to get more information about individual Democratic candidates and events.
Remember-there are 25 days left to register to vote and only 54 days until election day.
