After Saturday's rain out, Sunday was a perfect day for baseball, as Octorara defeated the Lionville Nationals of Downingtown East in the Fall Ball Opener with a score of 9-5.Erik Taylor led off for the Braves with a single and scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning. But Lionville answered right back with three runs in the bottom of the inning. After a scoreless second inning, Andrew Hill hit a single, stole second base, and scored on Taylor's single, who then scored on JR McArdle's hit to right field tying the score at three.
After Lionville scored a run in the fourth, Doug Lapp led off the fifth inning with a double and scored on Blake Lowry's double. Lowry then scored on a hit from Nathan Kime. Downingtown East put another run on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth to again tie things up.
Octorara took the lead in the sixth as Hill, McArdle, Zach Kebler, and T.C. Lawrence were waved around third by Coach George Hadfield to score while the Braves defense held the Nationals in the last two innings.
The Braves Fall Ball schedule includes games every Saturday and Sunday to complete the 16-game schedule in two months.
