John Peter Wolf, Jr., class of 1966, will be one of five former Oxford Area High School (OAHS) athletes to be inducted into the OAHS Sports Wall of Fame. This year will mark the eighth annual banquet and will begin with dinner in the high school cafeteria at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, September 29.J. Peter Wolf, Jr. "Pete" received recognition as "Best Athlete" during his senior year in 1966. He played JV and Varsity basketball and participated on the track and field teams, on which, during his junior and senior year, he excelled in the sprinting events-namely the 100, 220 and 440 yard dashes. Wolf had set records in two of these events. He also anchored the 880 and one mile relay teams to exceptional performances in competition at the Lincoln University and Chester County relays.
Wolf won the District titles in his individual sprinting events and placed second in the 100 yard dash in state competition at Penn State College, Pa.
After graduation from OAHS, Wolf participated in track meets sponsored by the Amateur Athletic Association. He won his qualifying heat in the 100 yard dash in the Senior Division at the 1966 National A.A.U. Junior Olympic Finals. He went on to win a fourth place finish in this event during the finals. This was a noteworthy accomplishment realizing that the contestants participating at this event came from all over the Eastern region.
Wolf went on to attend Lincoln University where he anchored the 880 and one mile relay team in addition to running his individual sprinting events. Wolf participated at several major relay events while attending Lincoln University, including the Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
Wolf is married with two children and three grandchildren. He continues to enjoy sports noting that at one time he had served as a coach for one of the Oxford Little League Baseball teams. He spends most of his leisure time playing "backyard" sports with his grandchildren.
Wolf is currently employed as a Logistics Manager with the DuPont Company where he recently celebrated 39 years of service.
In addition to Wolf, inductees this year include Palmer "Peck" Watkins, class of 1946, Pat Owens McCardell, class of 1960, Drew Eckman, class of 2003 and Josh Weitzel, class of 2003.
