New Garden >> A woman is homeless after a fire destroyed her trailer in the 100 block of Santilli Road in the Eastridge Trailer Park Tuesday morning.

The fire was reported by hunters at about 10:30 a.m. and Avondale firefighters found the home heavily involved upon their arrival.

Betty Jane Eastridge, owner of the park, said the resident rented the lot but owned the trailer. The woman is being aided by the Red Cross.

“Thank God she wasn’t in there,” Eastridge said. “She is going to need a lot of help.”

The boyfriend of the resident who didn’t want to be identified said she was at her nephew’s in Oxford when the fire started.

Firefighters had the fire under control by 11:27 a.m. and cleared the scene at 12:30 p.m. Avondale was assisted by Hockessin, Del., West Grove, Kennett and Longwood Fire Companies.

Chester County Fire Marshals were investigating the cause.
