Retirement/Resignations

Ronand Arrants, custodian at Kennett High, effective June 30.

Johnette Cooke, administrative assistant, Construction and Facilities Department, retiring on Aug. 11, 2017 after 18 years

Matthew Jones, fifth-grade teacher at New Garden Elementary School, resigning July 5, 2017.

Erin McDonnell-Jones, English teacher at Kennett High School, resigning July 5, 2017.

Erica Oberholtzer, special education teacher at Kennett High, resigning effective June 16, 2017.

Requests for Leave

Katey Brubaker, health and physical education at Bancroft and New Garden Elementary schools, maternity/child-rearing leave beginning Nov. 1, 2017 through Jan. 26, 2018.

Kelly Virgin, English teacher at Kennett High School, Family Medical Leave beginning Sept. 10, 2017 and continuing through Nov. 3, 2017.

Employment

Matthew Chestnut, fifth-grade teacher at Greenwood Elementary. He is a graduate of Downingtown West High School and Shippensburg University, certified in Elementary K-6.

Karen DiMascola, English teacher at Kennett Middle School. She is a graduate of Academy of Notre Dame, Bucknell University and Wilkes University.

Amanda Irwin, fourth-grade teacher at Bancroft Elementary School. She is a graduate of Kennett High School and West Chester University.

Adrienne Legg, Spanish teacher at Kennett High. She is a graduate of Pennsbury High School and West Chester University.

Stephen Miller, social studies teacher at Kennett High. He is a graduate of Upper Darby High School, Temple University, Widener University (MBA) and St. Joseph’s University.

Emily Morris, special education teacher at Kennett Middle School. She is a graduate of North Penn Senior High School and West Chester University.

Rachel Pearson, third-grade teacher at Bancroft Elementary School. She is a graduate of Daniel Boone High School and West Chester University.

Physician Consultant

Dr. Peter Soraruf has served at Kennett School District’s physician for many yhears but he is retiring from practicing medicine. The board appointed Dr. Michael Kirk as the district’s new Physician Consultant beginning July 1, 2017.

Adoption of Fees

Kennett School District charges fees for all school events. Policy 904 provides that residents of the district who are 65 and older will be admitted free of charge to all school athletic and musical events, and they will receive a 25 percent discount to drama events.

School events to be held during the 2017-18 school year:

High School: $6 per students and $10 for adults.

Middle School: $4 for students and $6 for adults.

Fall Play: $5 for students and $8 for adults.

Dances: $5 for all dances; $5 for advanced sales of Homecoming and Winter Formal and $7 at door. For middle school, the charge is $4.

Athletic events: $3 per student at the high school, and $5 per adult.

Aug. 14: Fall sports practices begin

Aug. 18: Sixth-grade orientation, 9:30 a.m. at Kennett Middle School.

Aug. 28: First day for all students.
