Farmers' Almanac The Farmers' Almanac predicts blustery and colder weather with flurries for today and tomorrow. On Saturday through next Tuesday look for mostly fair conditions. On Wednesday, the almanac expects wet weather turning fair and colder by Jan. 19.

Planetary watch The planet Mercury will return soon, having been lost in the sun's glare. It will emerge into the evening twilight.

Strictly speaking, Venus has passed it maximum in brilliancy, but you could hardly notice. It is still a mighty beacon in the predawn eastern sky, spawning gasps of amazement from most and even mistaken reports of UFOs. Look eastward an hour before sunrise and if you don't see Venus, it is cloudy!

This is an important month for Mars -watchers. In Gemini, it is the near the earth and bright.

Jupiter spends most of the month in Sagittarius, but too close to the sun to be seen easily. It won't be seen again until late this month. Then it is in the morning sky.

In Leo, Saturn is about 90 degrees from the sun, which means that it rises late at night and is at its highest at about sunrise.
