We all have to admit that with the temperatures rising, the crocuses popping their heads out of the crusty ground, and the smell of Spring in the air, there seems to be a new promise and reason for Hope.
It has been a long hard year with so many uncertainties and dramatic shifts from our practiced routines. In fact, it has been more than challenging. Many times, we wondered if we’d see the light of day.
Today, well, things are looking brighter; a light at the end of the tunnel?
One reason for hope is the rapidly produced COVID-19 vaccine. In spite of the challenges that Chester County has had in receiving an adequate vaccine supply, the folks I’ve talked to in the 1 A Group have managed to find a place to get vaccinated inside or outside of the County. It also looks like more vaccine and vaccination sites are now coming our way.
Immunized couples are allowed by standards of infection control, to get together with another immunized couple without masks and actually are free to visit inside their homes. This almost sounds normal!
Fully immunized grandparents are finally able to hug their grandchildren, who have been tested and free of symptoms.
The kids are going back to the school building five days a week and the teachers are being promised vaccine. Did we ever think this would happen this school year?
The fact that we can actually anticipate attending a Mushroom Festival (down-sized it may be) in September is another ray of sunshine.
As of April 4th, Indoor dining is opening up to 50% and in some self-regulated restaurants to 75%. The outdoor set-ups that were created last year are also ready to go with the warmer weather.
Curbside take-out food has been back-up this year, but there is nothing like sitting down in a restaurant and enjoying the ambiance, having food prepared, and being served ready to be enjoyed with family and friends.
Outdoor events can now have 50% of maximum occupancy, so maybe some of those postponed events, along with upcoming graduations can now take place.
All of this adds up to having a reason for hope. And, it is abouttime we share some good news.
Along with this, we still have a way to go, but we are “approaching a corner” with the virus, as Dr. Fauci has recently reflected. To keep this momentum, we can’t let down on the mask wearing outside the home or the six-foot distancing. We have learned that this manages the spread in the broader community, along with the variants of Covid---a small price to pay for our emerging freedom.
May this be a Renewing Spring, Holy Easter and time of Rebirth for each and all!
