KENNETT SQUARE—This Saturday, Dec. 22, the Cavalcade of Bands Honor Band will host a Preview Performance of their show, and parade music, in the football stadium at Kennett High School at 3 p.m. Sixty-two of the 100-plus members in the band are from Kennett and Unionville High schools.
More than 100 students from 20 high schools in the Mid-Atlantic region are giddy with excitement and anticipation more typical of younger children waiting for Santa. Why are these young adults so eager? In just a few short days they -- along with dedicated staff, committed volunteers, and proud family members -- will be headed to sunny California to be part of the historic 130th Tournament of Roses Parade on Jan. 1, 2019.
The Tournament of Roses Parade will be the highlight in a week of activities to make this trip a once-in-a- lifetime experience. When not rehearsing to fine tune their performance, these talented musicians will also be featured at the Disneyland Parade and will perform at Band Fest, a non-competitive field show exhibition hosted by the Tournament of Roses.
To prepare for their big moments in a national spotlight, these students have made an incredible commitment of both time and resources. They spent many Saturdays outside in the drizzle and cold perfecting their marching formations and devoted countless hours memorizing music independently. Their dedication exemplifies the positive impact music education has on young adults.
For those at home, the Tournament of Roses Parade will be broadcast live on your local NBC affiliate, starting at 11 a.m. EST. You can celebrate the new year from the comfort of your sofa and look for the Cavalcade of Bands Honor Band in the parade and their enthusiastic supporters in the grandstands.
The Kennett and Unionville bands will be at the Tournament of Roses - Rose Parade on New Year's Day 2019.
