A DuPont Co. retiree from London Grove Township has recently published a book about the efforts of some young adults to take over a large corporation.

Dale Brethauer, 62, is a former engineer from the company's Research and Development Department has been working on the book, "The Takeover Group" for six years. The book concerns three young Wharton School graduates, two men and a woman, whose goal is the control of the 11th largest corporation in the world.

The characters chose that particular company because it produces fuel cells, a product which they view as having potential and seems to be under-valued by the current management. Brethauer said in their quest to take over the company, the three money hungry characters are not themselves evil, but they meet up with evil people along the way.

In a press release he said, "As themes of greed, revenge, loyalty and love spin wildly around a vortex of corporate takeovers and energy expansion, one of the three friends plea bargains for three months in prison and a $2 million fine."

He said in writing the book he did plenty of investigation and engaged in analysis of fuel cells. "You do a lot of research when you write a book. It's a very creative process," he said.

Brethauer said he has always loved to write and has experience with non-fiction. With this 214-page story, he ventured into the realm of fiction and felt the exhilaration of being able to embellish his ideas.

When he was asked if the characters reflected people he knew, he said he had patterned them after

acquaintances.

Like many first-time novelists, Brethauer received many rejection notices before he finally found an agent that was interested. From there he found an editor whom he credits with streamlining his writing and correcting his grammar.

The book has been published by Eloquent Books Strategic Book Group and can be purchased for $24.95.

Brethauer will have a book signing at the Bayard Taylor Memorial Library in Kennett Square on Thursday, April 22, from 6 to 8 p.m.
