The Unionville High School basketball team opened its season at home last weekend as it played host to its annual Unionville Tip-Off Tournament.
Unionville went 1-1 in the event.
The Indians were victorious in their season opener last Friday night as they beat Garnet Valley by a score of 33-28.
On Saturday night, however, Unionville suffered its first loss of the young season as they fell to Marple Newtown 52-43.
Miles Holmes led Unionville with a team-high 12 points in the win over Garnet. The Indians used a strong fourth quarter in that contest to pull away as the game had been tied entering the final eight minutes.
In the loss to Marple Newtown, Unionville was done in by a tough third quarter as they were outscored 17-10 in the period. Holmes again led the Indians, this time with a team-high 21 points. Zack Ross chipped in with 11 points as well.
Unionville was scheduled to play at Avon Grove this past Tuesday night. That game occurred after our paper's deadline. Unionville's next game is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 19 at home against Downingtown East.
The Kennett High School basketball team had a tough opening weekend to the 2009-10 season.
Kennett dropped both of its games in the Lampeter-Strasburg Tip-Off Tournament.
Last Friday night, the Blue Demons fell 66-35 to host Lampeter-Strasburg in its season opener. Then on Saturday night, Kennett suffered a 61-37 loss to Penn Manor.
Kennett will play at Octorara on Thursday, Dec. 17 and then host Avon Grove on Saturday, Dec. 19 at 6:30 p.m.
