The Kennett High School golf program is turning into a dynasty on the links.
Last week the Blue Demons captured their third straight Ches-Mont League American Division title, and their fourth overall league championship in a row. They also won the final Southern Chester County League crown in 2006.
Kennett's latest title came in dramatic fashion.
In a battle between the top-two squads in the Ches-Mont American last Wednesday afternoon at Hartefeld National, the host Blue Demons earned a hard-fought 217-218 victory to propel themselves to the league crown.
Kennett finished 10-1 in league matches. Rustin also finished 10-1. The teams split two regular season meetings. However, Kennett finished first in the team standings at the Ches-Mont League Championships and those pivotal points earned their combined with the win over Rustin in the finale gave the Demons the division championship.
In the match at the nine-hole par-36 Hartefeld, with winds gusting more than 40 miles per hour, Kennett had three players shoot a team-best 43. Adam Birmingham, Zach Dilcher and Chris Coughlan all fired 7-over par 43s. Ryan Barba and Kobayaski added 44s to help make up the winning difference.
With its division clinching performance, Kennett's team also advanced to compete in the District 1 Tournament on Oct. 13 and 14 at Turtle Creek Golf Club.
