The Kennett High School golf team had a strong showing at last week's Ches-Mont League Championships at Downingtown Country Club.
Kennett, who stands at 12-1 overall this season, finished first in the team standings in the Ches-Mont's American Division with a score of 413. Oxford (419) was second and West Chester Rustin (422) was third.
Out of the entire 14 schools participating, Kennett finished second overall. Only Downingtown East, who took top honors in the National Division, had a lower score of 402.
Kennett, who is 8-1 in the American Division, upped its point total to 25 in the team standings in the division. Rustin, which is a perfect 9-0 in the league, but finished third in the league championship tournament slipped to second with 23 points.
Kennett and West Chester Rustin were scheduled to meet on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at Hartefeld National in a match that occurred after our paper's deadline. A Kennett win and the Blue Demons would clinch the Ches-Mont League's American Division title.
With its strong showing at the Ches-Mont Championships, Kennett also qualified as a team for the district tournament on Oct. 13 & 14 at Turtle Creek Golf Club.
The individual Ches-Mont title went to Oxford's Aaron Ickes, who shot a 4-over par 76 to earn medalist honors. Kennett's Ryan Barba finished in a tie for second place with a 77. Kennett's Zach Dilcher placed in a tie for seventh place with a 79.
