The Kennett and Unionville (KAU) Little League's 12-year-old all-star team recently captured the District 28 championship by defeating Glenmore Eagle 18-6. The team has played together for four years and won the District 28 title three times during that span, going a combined 17-3 overall in the process. Last year, the group finished third in the state. KAU earned a berth into sectionals by winning districts.
Keeping with its tradition of quality pitching (led by Tucker Reese, Andrew Jones, Sean Faux, Alex Hornibrook, Joe Zirolli and Alex Pechin) as well as solid defense (led by Chris Roman), KAU added a new wrinkle to its already solid foundation with long distance hitting. KAU belted 16 home runs during the tournament, including a grand slam by Dominic Testa in the championship game that sealed the victory and district crown for KAU. Several players had multiple home runs including Testa (4), Alex Pechin (3), Andrew Jones (2), Jake Freeman (2), Eric Duerr (2), Tucker Reese (2) and Quinn Cheyney.
