The Solanco junior high wrestling team has done it again according to their head coach, John Dolan. For the second year in a row the Golden Mules returned to the pasture as Elizabethtown Optimist Tournament team champions. Solanco finished with 227 points, 19 more than their closest opponent. According to Dolan the Solanco junior high wrestling team remains the best wrestling team in all of Lancaster and Lebanon County. Solanco had 10 medallists ranging from first to fifth place. To begin claiming medals, Ronnie Perry (75-pound weight class) finished in third place to start things off.Evan Wertz claimed his first 80-pound championship and Sam Root won two big matches at 85. Hans Herr was sick all weekend and still placed fourth at 90. Eric McDonald placed fifth at 95 and Kyle Hammond placed fifth at 100.
Wink Charles took home his second championship in two years at 105 and also never lost a middle school match. He ended up his middle school career with a 46-0 record.
Dylan Fisher won two big matches at 110 and Kevin Tran placed fifth at 115.
Joe Welk took home his second championship in two years at 122.
Quite an accomplishment for a youngster seeded seventh going in and knocking off the number one seed in the finals.
Connor Moran claimed his first championship at 130 and also finished the season undefeated at 24-0. Cole Martin won two big matches at 138 and Josh Forren, varsity Joe's little brother, placed fifth at 155.
"Kieran Satterfield did a great job this weekend and Tim Satterfield also wrestled tough this weekend," said Dolan. "Tyler Ranck won two big matches, with both Merle Nickel and Jimmy Miller wrestling tough this weekend."
The week before the junior high wrestling team competed in the JV championships. After the mats were cleared in that one the team claimed 10 metals.
Dolan sent congratulations to Hunter Tollinger, Nate Cweink, Kurtis Weaver, Gus Yarnall, Owen Cook, Alex Jones, Austin Laws, Adam Nadu, Nate Kreider, Evan Zac, Mitch McDonald and Steve Young. Also competing and earning Dolan's praises were Brandon Leary, Ben Forren, Evan Smith, Brad Cweink, Kieran Satterfield, John McFalls, Merle Nickel and Jimmy Miller.
"All of these wrestlers did a great job at the tournament," said Dolan, "They are also part of the best junior high wrestling team in Lancaster and Lebanon County."
