John Skiles Hammond, 82, of Coatesville, passed away Monday evening, Dec. 8, at the Zerber Sisters Nursing Center in Narvon.Born in Wagontown, he was the son of the late Parke and Rebecca Skiles Hammond.
John was the husband of Eleanor Ruth Forgione Hammond. Together they celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on Jan. 6.
A graduate of Scott High School in Coatesville, he served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He worked as a lineman for PECO Energy Co. for many years before retiring in 1991.
John was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Coatesville, was an avid walker and swimmer, loved the outdoors, and enjoyed playing the saxophone and spending time with his three daughters.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Eleanor; his daughters, Lesley F. Durr of Elverson, Antoninette M., wife of James Earl Finch of Parkesburg, and Rebekah G., wife of Edward M. Singer of Alburtis; three grandchildren, Patrick and Jon Singer, and Justin Finch; and a sister, Esther Thompson of Chadds Ford.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Allen Hammond. Arrangements for memorial services are pending and will be announced at a later date.
