Joan E. Maggio, 75, of Coatesville, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007, at home.She was the wife of the late Richard Maggio Sr.

Born in Media, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Elsie Bergey.

She attended Lancaster Mennonite High School, the Wilmington Hospital Nursing Program and received a BS in Nursing from West Chester University.

She was employed by the Coatesville Hospital, the Coatesville Veterans Hospital, Embreeville State Hospital and Harrison House of Coatesville.

Joan was a member of Sandy Hill Community Church and the Downingtown Friends Meeting. She was a Sunday school teacher at Friends Meeting, a member of the 30 Year Nurses Health Study, Church of Exceptional, a nursing instructor at Embreeville, a member of the Kitchen Committee at Sandy Hill, a past member of the NAACP and a past member of Barley Sheaf Players.

She is survived by a sister, Barbara Luckowski, of Downingtown; her children, Greta Taylor, of Lancaster, Deborah Cordery, of Coatesville, Mary Sweeney, of Coatesville, Richard Maggio Jr., of Coatesville; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and three nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Helen Root.

Her funeral service were held Friday, Dec. 28.

Arrangements are being handled by Ralston & Bredickas Funeral Home, Downingtown.
