Jean A. Boddy, 78, of Avondale died on Wednesday, Jan. 21.She was the wife of the late Leroy E. Boddy Sr.

Born in West Chester, she was the daughter of the late Edward C. Brown Sr. and Elva Richardson Brown.

Mrs. Boddy attended Avon Grove schools, graduating with the class of 1948. She later attended Berean Institute of Business Law in Philadelphia.

Mrs. Boddy worked at Hewlett Packard Systems, now Agilent Technologies, until 1991, when she retired after 25 years of service.

She was a lifelong, dedicated member of Mt. Tabor A.M.E. Church, where she was a deaconess, usher, class leader, lay council, superintendent of Sunday school, Sunday school teacher, member of the prayer band and also served on the Missionary Society.

Mrs. Boddy was a lifetime member of the Women's Home Overseas Missionary Society, a member of the Interdenominational Ushers' Association of Chester County and a member of the former Mt. Olive Tent No. 26, where she was a past assistant leader of the tent. She had been honored by her church and the ushers' association for her dedicated service.

She is survived by one son, Leroy E. Boddy Jr.; one daughter, Sharon E. Boddy, both of Avondale; one niece, whom she raised as a daughter, Stacey J. Brown of Newark, Del.; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Yvonne E. Goodwin of West Grove and Joanne P. Cooper of Parkesburg; and three brothers, Edward G. Brown Jr. of West Grove, Harold K. Brown of Avondale and Richard Brown of Coatesville.

She was predeceased by her son and daughter, and several brothers and sisters.

Her funeral service was Saturday, Jan. 31, at Mt. Tabor A.M.E. Zion Church.

Interment will be in Indiantown Gap Veterans Cemetery, Annville.
