Janet Deiter Metzler, 65, passed away on Sunday afternoon at her residence, peacefully holding tightly to the hands of the Shepherd she loved.She was born in Strasburg Township, a daughter of the late Abram H. and Myrtle Deiter Metzler.

She was a member of New Providence Mennonite Church where she attended most of her life and spent a lot of her time on various committees. She retired from Lancaster General Hospital after 43 years of service. She served on the board of Main Street Closet and volunteered at the Solanco Food Bank. Her family was very important to her.

She is survived by four brothers, Roy D., married to Kathryn, Ivan D., married to Anna, Earl D., married to Louise, and Elvin D., married to Nelda; thirteen nieces and nephews; 27 great nieces and nephews; and five great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister Verna Rivera.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Aug. 3 at 2 p.m. from the New Providence Mennonite Church, 121 Main Street, New Providence. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
