James R. Wilson, 88, of Willow Valley Lakes Drive, Willow Street, died Tuesday, July 15, at Lakeside at Willow Valley.He was the husband of the late Jennie Van Hal Wilson, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Thomas H. and Margaret Barnfather Wilson
A Veteran of World War II, he proudly served with the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Japan as a Lieutenant.
He worked for Martin Marietta Aircraft, Maytag, and DuPont as an Industrial Engineer. He retired from DuPont after 35 years of service as a senior management consultant.
He was a member of the Kennett Lodge No. 475 F & AM, Kennett Square. He was a lifelong Episcopalian, last affiliated with St. Johns Episcopal Church in Lancaster, served as a vestryman and Sunday school teacher at Church of the Advent at Kennett Square, helped found St. Stephens, in Newton, Iowa, and was raised in Church of the Good Shepherd, Scranton, and Church of the Epiphany, in Clarks Summit. For many years he served as a Republican committeeman both in Chester and in Lancaster counties.
He is survived by two sons, Thomas R. Wilson, and wife, Sally, of West Chester, Robert C. Wilson, and wife, Diane, of Kennett Square; a daughter, Lonnie J. Stanley and husband, Robert, of Unionville; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and extended family member Ulrike Hamper of Maryland and two daughters of Baltimore, Md.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by an infant daughter, two great-grandchildren, and a sister, Margaret Gerken.
Memorial services were held at St. John's Episcopal Church, Lancaster. Interment was in Union Hill Cemetery. Contributions may to the American Cancer Society or to Hospice of Lancaster County.
