I know I'm not alone in expressing my deep regrets that Harrington's has closed. I think I was one of the first people to interface with Carla about 13 years ago when she was thinking about becoming part of the Kennett Square community. We both held a lot of enthusiasm for the future, and particularly for the effort she was ready to put into the success of Harrington's and the Picket Fence. Not only did Carla and Al create and establish a signature business in our town, there are many children who seemed to have 'grown up' there playing checkers. It was the place for friends, families, artists and committees to meet. They gave generously of their time, energy and contributions to many town causes and never skimped on their good taste and quality in creating the businesses that carried their name.

Carla and Al have been greatly respected and loved in this town, but there are also those who gave them the short end of the stick. But I know that the first group far outnumbers the second.

They will leave a gaping hole that was filled with the warmth that small towns represent and long to recreate. We will miss you!
