In the spirit of the season of giving, customers at Giant Food Stores and Martin's Food Markets gave back in record amounts to help Children's Miracle Network hospitals in their communities. The grocery chains recently concluded their annual "Candles for Kids" in-store holiday campaign with a record $500,000 raised to benefit hospitalized children throughout Giant and Martin's operating areas.Sponsored by Giant Food Stores and Martin's Food Markets, "Candles for Kids" is an annual two-week program that ran this year from Nov. 30 to Dec. 16. Customers were encouraged to purchase a paper candle at the checkout for $1 each and to write their names on these candles, which were then displayed in the stores. Last year Giant and Martin's customers and associates raised just over $450,000 in "Candles for Kids."
