George G. "Dick" Baker, 80, of Downingtown, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, at Brandywine Hospital.He was the husband of Jacqueline J. McWilliams Baker, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage.
Born in Downingtown, he was the son of Edgar J. and Mineola Guie Baker Jones.
A 1945 graduate of Downingtown High School, he was the starting quarterback for the Downingtown Whippets that year.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy, achieving the rank of YNT3.
He worked as an account executive in advertising for WCOJ for 40 years, retiring in 1985. Most recently, he was employed at Hershey's Mill Country Club.
He was the oldest living member of East Brandywine Baptist Church.
He loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed spending time with his family and playing golf.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Georgia (Ron) Padgett of Jacksonville, Fla., Ginny (Henry) Kramer of North Potomac, Md., Cindy (Tim) Montgomery of Kernersville, N.C., Eddie (Betsy) Baker of Downingtown and Richard "Dick" (Krissy) Baker of West Chester; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Monday, Feb. 11, at East Brandywine Baptist Church, 999 Horseshoe Pike, Downingtown.
Interment was in East Brandywine Baptist Cemetery, Downing-town.
