Franklin Vincenzo Vattelana, 73, of Downingtown, died Dec. 31 at the Chester County Hospital after a long illness.Born in West Chester, he was the son of the late Francesco J. and Vincenza Josephine Donofrio Vattilana.
Mr. Vattelana was educated in the West Chester Area School District. Immediately after school, Frank joined the Army and served in Korea.
For most of his life, he was self-employed as a building contractor in the West Chester area. He had a reputation for his custom work and was very proud of his profession. Additionally, he was employed for several years by Mark Rowan, Inc. and Southdown Homes.
He collected antiques for many years and at one time owned a local antique shop. Later in life, he enjoyed woodworking and carving. His family will cherish his beautiful hand-carved ducks and various projects that he did for them. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor.
He is survived by six children, Frank Vattelana Jr. of Oxford and his wife, Valerie, Delores Court of West Chester and her husband, Bob, John Vattelana of Downingtown, Gary Vattelana and his wife, Judith, of Yorktown, Virginia, Diane DiRocco of Downingtown and her husband, Michael, Nicholas Crews-Vattelana; and by 13 grandchildrenp; one great-grandchild; five sisters, Catherine Clark of Boothwyn, Margaret Guinta of West Chester, Lucy Keck of Coatesville, Helen Capodanno of Wilmington, Eleanor Whitely of Coatesville; a brother, Rudolph Vattilana of Wichita, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers William Vattelana and Benito Vattelana and a sister Elvira Vattilana.
