The Unionville High School field hockey team took advantage of a first half goal and then hung on for dear life down the stretch in a hard-fought victory over Kennett last week.
Unionville senior Molly Robine scored early in the opening half and that proved to be the game-winner last Thursday afternoon as the Indians beat Kennett by a score of 1-0 in a Ches-Mont League match at Kennett High School.
Unionville, who improved to 2-3-1 in the league's American Division with the victory, survived a number of late scares from the Blue Demons.
Kennett (2-4-1 overall, 1-3-1 league) came very close to scoring and tying things up late in the game off a great shot by Mallory Sinton that Unionville junior goalie Sammy Carlino made an outstanding save on to preserve the lead.
Then just moments later Kennett was awarded a penalty stroke after a mad scramble in front of the net. Blue Demons captain Cana Richmond's shot attempt with 1:24 left in the game was stopped by Carlino, who finished with five saves in all, to give Unionville the win.
