John and Lorraine Empie of Cochranville celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 30. They were married in Faggs Manor Presbyterian Church, Cochranville on Aug. 30. Their anniversary was celebrated with their children and grandchildren with a dinner at the Ball and Thistle Restaurant at the Wyncote golf course.They are the parents of Laurie, wife of David Swarr of Quarryville; Jonna, wife of Timothy King of Cochranville; and Kent, husband of Karen Empie of Chester Springs. They have also been blessed with nine grandchildren.

John spent four years in the United States Navy and following college, taught math for 34 years at Kennett High School, retiring in 1996. Lorraine worked as an executive secretary prior to being a homemaker, and is currently the facilitator of the Alzheimers Support Group which meets at the Kennett Area Senior Center. Both John and Lorraine have been active members of the Faggs Manor Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. They enjoy attending the many activities in which their grandchildren are involved.
